What a magical experience!
Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), the government body who look after all Ugandan National Parks are solely responsible for the issuing and sale of Gorilla Trekking permits. Permit availability is determined solely by UWA
All permits are required to be paid upfront to UWA prior to your trekking date.
Gorilla permits are $800USD per permit (person) + Karungi fees (per permit covers our transport to collect the permits / exchange losses / bank fees etc).
There are some other costs you may want to consider on the day, when you arrive, there will be an option to hire a porter for the day. Teh porter is a local community member who is not employed by UWA and the money you pay them will go directly to their families. Most people find it helpful and it supports the community. Typical rate is approx $30USD per day, however this is not set and you can pay them whatever your heart desires.
Additionally it is customary to tip the guides and trekkers for their efforts (approx $40USD or whichever you see fit). The guides and trekkers are employed by UWA, so they do receive a wage to provide the service to you. The tip will be split among them.

The Gorilla Habituation Experience is 4-hours with the Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the Rushaga area of the Park.
As the name suggests, these families are in the process of becoming used to humans and you are now a part of it!
The habituation period takes approximately 2 years.
This experience is only offered in Bwindi’s Southern Sector in Uganda.
